WHEN MOUNTAINS MEET

A unique chance to be in Ullapool to take part in this immersive, multicultural, gig theatre show telling the true story of Ullapool resident and acclaimed musician Anne Wood travelling from Scourie to the Himalayas in search of her father and other family. The Celtic Connections hit show features musicians from Scotland and Pakistan.

* Special pre-show talks about the geology of Scourie and the Himalayas by the North West Highlands Geopark.

There will be two perfomances:

Friday matinee: 2pm at the Macphail Centre.

(Performance scheduled to meet ferry times for a day trip for residents of the Outer Hebrides.)

Saturday: 7pm at the Macphail Centre.

Join us for a day of learning, discussion and music. Topics include:

• Science in Fiction - the impact of reading about science in novels and poetry

• Over the Hills and Far Away - the challenges of bringing broadband to remote, rural communities

• Learning From Old Ways - the value and validity of indigenous knowledge hidden in Gaelic literature with a performance by the Gaelic Community Choir.

• An afternoon of exploring Underworlds launched with a musical interpretation of tipping points in land and sea

• Followed by expert speakers describing what is going on beneath our feet in:

  Rock

  Roots

ULLUMINATE SUNDAY

• Free activities organised in different locations in and around Ullapool to invite the community to enjoy what we have and learn from local experts. Choose activities about what’s in the loch with Ullapool Sea Savers, how to live off-grid, survive in the wild and eco-design buildings with West Edge, Kinder Croft and North Woods Design, the 150 year-old bridge over Corrieshalloch Gorge with National Trust Scotland, and the rocks and flora of the NW Highlands Geopark at Knockan Crag.

ULLUMINATE COLLABORATION WITH LUGGER FEST

In pursuit of the Silver Darlings - a brief history of the herring industry and evolution of the sailing herring lugger, with a focus on the restoration of the luggers, Clan Gordon 1911 and St. Vincent 1910.
